This policy explains how personal data is handled when you visit coenradie.com, subscribe to the newsletter, or contact me about privacy.

Who is responsible?

I, Jettro Coenradie, am the controller responsible for the processing described in this policy. I am based in the Netherlands.

Visiting the website
#

This is a static website. When you request a page, the hosting infrastructure necessarily receives technical information such as your IP address, the requested URL, the date and time, browser information, and possible error or security information.

This information is used only to deliver, operate, troubleshoot, and secure the website. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in providing a reliable and secure website. I do not use server logs to create visitor profiles. Logs are retained under the hosting configuration only for as long as they are needed for security, troubleshooting, or applicable legal obligations.

Privacy-friendly analytics with Umami
#

I use Umami Cloud to understand, at an aggregate level, which articles are read and how visitors find the website. The account uses Umami’s EU data region.

Umami may process:

  • the page path and page title;
  • the referring website;
  • the date and time of the visit;
  • browser, operating system, device type, screen size, and language;
  • approximate location derived from the request; and
  • an anonymous session identifier.

The visitor’s IP address is used transiently to derive location and an anonymous session hash, but Umami states that it does not store the IP address. The session identifier is created using a rotating salt. This website does not assign a distinct ID or send names, email addresses, or other custom personal data to Umami.

Umami does not use cookies or track visitors across different websites. The tracker on this site also respects your browser’s Do Not Track setting. Analytics history is retained for up to six months under the current Umami Cloud plan.

The legal basis is my legitimate interest in measuring readership and improving the website. I have chosen a cookieless, data-minimising service and do not use the data to identify individual visitors.

Umami Software, Inc. provides the hosted analytics service. More information is available in the Umami documentation and Umami Data Processing Agreement.

Newsletter subscriptions
#

If you subscribe, I use Kit (formerly ConvertKit) to manage the mailing list and send email updates about new articles.

Kit processes information including:

  • your email address;
  • the subscription date, source, and confirmation status;
  • technical information such as IP address, browser, and device data;
  • delivery and engagement information, such as whether an email was delivered, opened, or a link was clicked; and
  • consent, unsubscribe, and suppression information.

The purpose is to confirm your subscription, deliver the newsletter, maintain the mailing list, prevent abuse, and understand whether the emails are functioning as intended. The legal basis for sending the newsletter is your consent. The form uses double opt-in: you are subscribed only after confirming through the email sent by Kit.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link included in each newsletter. Withdrawal does not affect processing that took place before you withdrew consent.

Subscriber data is retained while you remain subscribed. After you unsubscribe, a minimal record of the address and unsubscribe status may be retained as a suppression record, so that the opt-out is respected and the consent history can be demonstrated. Other data is removed or anonymised when it is no longer needed. You may also request erasure by emailing privacy@coenradie.com, unless limited information must be retained for a legal claim or to honour your opt-out.

Kit, Inc. is based in the United States. Kit’s Data Processing Addendum includes the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses as transfer safeguards. See the Kit Data Processing Addendum and Kit privacy information.

The embedded form on this website uses plain HTML. It does not load Kit’s JavaScript or contact Kit merely because you view a page. Your data is sent to Kit only when you submit the form. The Kit page shown during the subscription process may use its own cookies or similar technologies under Kit’s policy.

Contacting me about privacy

If you email me, I process your email address and the contents of your message to answer your request. Depending on the request, the legal basis is compliance with my GDPR obligations or my legitimate interest in handling correspondence. Correspondence is normally deleted within twelve months after the matter is resolved, unless it is still needed to establish or defend a legal claim.

Cookies and local browser storage

This website currently places no analytics or advertising cookies and does not require a consent banner for the technologies described here.

The website theme can store these functional preferences in your browser’s local storage:

  • appearance, after you choose light or dark mode; and
  • a11ySettings, after you change an accessibility preference.

These values remain on your device until you clear your browser storage or reset the preference. They are not transmitted to me and are not used for analytics, advertising, or cross-site tracking. They are used only to remember functionality you explicitly requested.

Service providers and disclosure

I use service providers for website hosting, privacy-friendly analytics, and newsletter delivery. They process data only for the relevant service and under their applicable contractual and legal obligations.

I do not sell personal data, use it for automated decision-making, or share it with advertisers. Data may be disclosed if required by law or when necessary to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.

Your rights
#

Depending on the circumstances, the GDPR gives you the right to:

  • access your personal data;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • request erasure;
  • restrict processing;
  • receive data you provided in a portable format;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests; and
  • withdraw consent at any time.

Send a request to privacy@coenradie.com. I may ask for information needed to verify that the request concerns you. I will respond within the period required by the GDPR.

If you are not satisfied with how your request is handled, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy when the website, its services, or legal requirements change. The date at the top shows the latest revision.
